Back to School with Spunkin Honeyhead!

I’ve almost got a kindergartener again, y’all! He was registered back in February, so it’s super official. I can’t believe it’s happened this fast, considering my cutie dudey feels like he was born last week. We don’t know what the fall will bring with COVID still looming around us, but whether the kids return in person, or I have to learn to be a virtual K-mama, my babes will definitely go back in style! I got a super duper jump start on Little I’s wardrobe with these beautiful fabrics from Spunkin Honeyhead’s fall lineup.

Our son loves all things space, so it was a no-brainer that I signed up to sew the Planets with the Constellations coordinate (both in cotton spandex). For the first top, I wanted a raglan tee, as I felt that’s one of the nicest, quickest, and easiest ways to showcase two fabrics that coordinate with one another. I sewed up the Basic Raglan with a Twist from Made by Runi, though I modified it to be short sleeved by just cutting the sleeves 3.5″ past the armscye. I chose to use the Constellation as the main and the Planets as the coordinate, and I love how it turned out! To tie it all together, I used a mustard colored ribbing that I purchased from Jumping June Textiles.

Little I has been choosing to wear a hoodie that he loves a lot lately, but the sleeves are getting too short. He loves the style, so I decided to make him a new Undercover Hoodie from Ellie and Mac* with the rest of the fabric. I used the Planets as the main print, this time (it’s also the entire back–I forgot to grab pics of that). I used a rust colored ribbing for the bodice piping, and the sleeve cuffs and waistband. This actually turned out to be one of my favorite pieces I have made for him in a while! I love this style, in particular. Some of my favorite features are the colorblocked sleeve, the giant pocket across the front bodice, and the piping. It’s not written in the instructions to sew it so it’s visible, but I always sew mine this way because I like the pop it gives to the hoodie. I also sized up so he’d actually still fit it by the time school starts. Nothing sadder than sews that can’t outlast the season….take it from me.

Not only are these fabrics super cute and great quality, I adore the color palette of them so much. That denim blue gives me a million heart eyes, and I love that solid coordinate possibilities are almost endless. You could pair it with other shades of blue, green, oranges, yellows, reds…you name it! I’m excited for these to be his first official “back to school” pieces though I should probably hide them in my own closet if I don’t want him wearing them before then! Make sure to stop by the site while the preorder is open and check out all the other fab offerings. Until next time….

Yes, that’s my baby love, haha! My kiddos really are quite a joy and troopers for putting up with me always needing them to pose for the camera. I love sewing for them and sharing, just as much. Thanks for commenting, Milli!
